Movie Night

Karlee shows up carrying the last box from their parents' place. Charlotte opens the door in a tank top and old pajama shorts, hair messy from a long day. She takes one look at her sister and asks her to stay for a movie. The lights go low. On screen a woman screams while a masked man drags her down a hall, but the sisters are barely watching. Charlotte flinches and hides her face in Karlee's shoulder. Karlee laughs softly and steals a handful of popcorn. After a while Charlotte kicks her feet onto the cushion, stretching until her toes brush Karlee's thigh, dark polish glinting. She settles with her head in Karlee's lap, dark curls spilling across denim. Their eyes meet. Charlotte rises just enough to press her mouth to Karlee's. The kiss is soft, questioning. Karlee freezes, then leans in when Charlotte pulls back, wordless dare hanging in the air. Karlee answers it, lips parting, the popcorn bowl tipping sideways between them as the movie keeps playing.
