Mary was still arranging papers on her desk when Ana walked in. She smiled and came closer, hands already reaching for Mary’s waist. Ana leaned in for a soft kiss, but Mary pulled back just enough to break it, cheeks hot. She glanced at the door—anyone could walk past and see them, see their substitute teacher tangled up with a colleague. They kept talking in low voices for a few minutes, eyes doing more of the work. Finally they agreed to wait until later, after the halls emptied. Ana grinned, stepped back, ready to go, when her phone buzzed. The message said the school was shut for the rest of the day. No risk left. Ana pushed the door closed, slipped her tongue into Mary’s mouth, and they kissed hard, tongues meeting in urgent little strokes that made everything else disappear.
