Cherie spends her morning on a call while Emma watches the clock tick. She spent hours planning this afternoon yet here she is again, head turned, voice clipped, half-absent. Emma crosses her arms. She is still wearing the wedding ring. The word married hovers between them like a dare. Emma curls into the gap it leaves and murmurs against her lips, “Our secret. Nobody else gets to touch you today.” A tremor runs through Cherie’s thigh. Her knees part slightly. Emma’s fingers find heat between the fabric.
