A Bit of Summer

Heather and Stevie stretch out beside a winter pool like cats in borrowed sun. Steam ghosts off their skin. One minute they look soft, the next something switches and lips crush together, fast, hungry. Tongues flicker, hands slide, and the chill snaps like old ice under bare thighs. Summer slips out from under their tongues, pours down over collarbones, across bellies that tighten at every lap. Clothes lose the fight, nipples stand hard, pink and kissed raw. Fingers dip lower, find slick heat hotter than noon, push inside, pull out slick. Short gasps, long sighs, neither girl bothering to hold anything back. One comes first, mouth wide and silent; the other rides the same wave seconds later, wetness spilling onto tile. When they’re done the afternoon feels almost naked, sun brighter, pool bluer, air suddenly rough against wet skin. The two of them settle again, legs loosely hooked, bodies still shivering light into the winter day.
