A Match Made In Hell!

Queenie Sateen sat behind her desk when the door flew open. Adria Rae and Kimmy Kimm stormed in, eyes blazing. They wanted refunds now. Their blind date had paired them as exes. Adria jabbed the air. "Your system said we’re compatible. Look where that got us." Kimmy folded her arms. "Past didn’t work. System’s crap. Give the money back." Queenie arched an eyebrow. She still believed her numbers, but she offered to listen. Adria glanced at Kimmy, shrugged. “Fine. Questions first.” Queenie’s pen hovered over paper. “Why did it fall apart?” Kimmy’s voice caught. “Work pulled me out of town.” Adria nodded. “I stayed.” Queenie leaned in. “Neither of you asked the other to come along?” Silence split the room. A shared ache flashed between them. Queenie smiled, gentle but sure. “You each waited for the other to speak. Thought the silence meant goodbye.” Adria’s mouth fell open. Kimmy’s eyes glistened. They were still staring at each other when Adria whispered, “We wasted a year on a dumb assumption.” Kimmy turned toward Queenie. “Can you help us get it right this time?” Queenie rose, the silk of her blouse whispering against her skin. “Ladies, I can guide you. Conversations don’t start themselves.” She circled the desk, stood between them. “Say what you need—slow. Out loud.” Adria stepped closer first. “I wanted you to ask me to leave with you.” Kimmy met her there. “I was scared you’d say no.” Their mouths crashed together. Queenie watched, a soft smirk playing at her lips, savoring the proof her system had always known.
