Alexis Tae lounges at home when her phone rings. Erica. Alexis knows that tone right away—her twin wants something. Erica's frantic on the other end, confessing she forgot her anniversary with Maya Woulfe. Another miss and Maya's done. That's why Erica needs Alexis to stand in for her while she's stuck at work. Alexis balks, then gives in. Night falls. Alexis stands outside Maya's loft, a tight coil of nerves in her stomach. She knocks, the sound sharp against the quiet hallway. The door swings open. Maya appears in a dress that clings and gaps in all the right places. Heat flickers low in Alexis's gut. She steps inside, her voice unsteady when she suggests a walk along the boardwalk. Maya gives her a sideways smile, all silk and suggestion. "I'd rather stay here." The air thickens. Alexis tries to hold the line, but Maya doesn't let up.
