Open House

Nova's red hair fell loose down her back as she moved through the rental house, pearls of sweat gathering at her temples. Astrid followed close behind. "That room gets a lot of sun," Nova said. Astrid's fingers traced the doorframe and she glanced sideways. "Bet it gets warmer than this." Nova kept her voice steady. "Two bedrooms, one bath. Monthly price is firm." But the brunette's eyes kept dropping to her mouth. The kitchen counters gleamed under afternoon light, marble catching every reflection. "Lots of space to… stretch out," Astrid murmured. Nova's pulse flicked at her throat. She pressed forward to show the garden view through the tall windows. Astrid stepped closer than necessary. Their hips brushed. The air felt thicker than it should. Nova explained the utilities in short bursts. Astrid answered with curved lips and subtle leans. The hallway narrowed near the bedrooms. Nova turned to speak and Astrid's lips parted, waiting, dark hair falling forward over one pale shoulder. Nova closed her mouth. Her professionalism slipped between her fingers. She reached for Astrid's waist. Astrid smiled, quiet, certain, and drew her in.
