We Promised We Wouldn't

Mina Moon knocks on her best friend's door and finds Sawyer Cassidy instead, another member of the family. Their eyes lock and the heat between them crackles instantly. Mina stammers, cheeks flushed, asking where her friend is. Sawyer says she's running late. Mina suggests waiting in the car; Sawyer steps aside and invites her inside instead. She hesitates, then walks through the threshold. They settle on the couch, trading forced small talk, knees brushing now and then. Every glance drips with want. When Sawyer trails her fingers up Mina's thigh, Mina jerks back and whispers that they promised they wouldn't get involved. Sawyer's mouth curves. Maybe, she says, they only swore off dating—not this. The words sink in; Mina feels the knot inside her loosen. Why give their friend that power? They've both ached for each other long enough. Mina leans in, greedy now, letting the unspoken need finally have its way.
