Unfinished Business

Karma RX and Charlotte Stokely lay tangled in bed, their wedding still weeks away. Karma stretched and happened to glance over at the laptop on the nightstand. 'Who's Ella?' she asked. Charlotte went stiff, tried to laugh it off, but Karma pressed. The truth tumbled out—Ella Knox, the high-school girlfriend who’d left without looking back. Charlotte left for work an hour later. The laptop stayed open. Karma couldn’t shake the hurt she’d seen in her fiancée’s eyes. A plan formed. A few evenings after that, the doorbell rang. Ella stood on the porch, older now but unmistakably the girl from the photo. Charlotte froze in the hallway until Karma took her hand. "I invited her," Karma said softly. "You need this. One night. No secrets, no what-ifs. Then we start clean." Charlotte searched Karma’s face, then looked at Ella. The kiss, when it happened, was slow at first—uncertain, almost polite—then hungry. Karma stepped in behind Charlotte, lips tracing her neck while her hands slid under the silk of her robe. Clothes dropped where they stood. Fingers and tongues found wet heat. Bodies rocked in rhythm on the bed they’d share for years to come.
