Kristen sits on her bed with the phone pressed to her ear, spine straightening the moment Nickey answers. A smile spreads across her face as she admits she’s still shaky on the chest-compressions part of CPR. Nickey’s easy on the line, says she’s been drilling it and would be happy to give Kristen a private lesson. At the thought of showing Nickey the backyard pool, Kristen perks up—she can almost taste the humidity in the afternoon air already. Nickey laughs softly and agrees. They settle on an hour and a half.
