Alexis slipped into her stepdaughter's bedroom in nothing but those crisp white shorts, intent on doing what always worked. Riley lay buried under blankets, still refusing to stir. Alexis peeled them back, climbed in, and traced kisses down the girl's neck until Riley's breath caught. When Alexis's mouth found her ear she stopped pretending to sleep.
