The Kissing Booth

Emma Hix, Whitney Wright, and Tiffany Watson sprawl on the carpet with a deck between them. Tiffany and Whitney have been thick since high school; tonight is the first time Emma meets Tiffany in person. Emma has heard endless stories, so her smile stays bright as cards flick across the rug.
Tiffany catches Emma’s quick hand and laughs, “You’re stacking the deck.” Whitney snaps at her, voice cool, “Don’t accuse my girl.” Tiffany’s brows lift. “Your what?” The pause stretches just long enough to answer her. Whitney and Emma share a guilty glance. They’re together, they admit, and they simply hadn’t found the right moment to say so. Whitney looks down at the cards, cheeks flushed. “I wanted to tell you—I just didn’t know how.”
Tiffany fills the silence with clumsy jokes about lesbians. Silence snaps back sharper. Emma and Whitney rise, gather their things, and leave without another word.
Three nights later, Tiffany knocks on Whitney’s door, flowers limp in her hand. “I’m sorry,” she blurts the second it opens. “I set up a kissing booth for Pride and raised almost four hundred bucks. I wanted you both to know I’m not that idiot from last week.” The apology hangs between them until Whitney’s mouth curves, soft, and Emma’s follows.
They close in and kiss Tiffany—slow, then searching—tasting surprise on her lips. Tiffany sways into it. Her breath hitches. “Shit.”
Emma’s fingers find the top button of Tiffany’s shirt. “Take this off,” she whispers. Whitney’s palms slide up the inside of Tiffany’s thighs as fabric drops. “Stay,” she says, voice low. The card game is long forgotten; heat builds in its place, bodies meeting skin to skin on the couch until the early light finds them tangled and quiet.
