The Toll of Control

Kira Noir and Ivy Wolfe sprawled across their bedroom sheets. Ivy scrolled through her phone and caught the notification about some wedding. She nudged Kira and asked if they'd gotten an invite. Kira shook her head. No invitation. They weren't close enough for that kind of thing. Kira kept it plain. She was the boss. Distance felt safer, cleaner. Friends made things messy. Ivy snorted, calling her adorable and stern all at once. She pictured dancing and open bars and too many drunk coworkers. Kira held her ground. Respect demanded walls. If they stepped past those lines they would start asking favors, pushing deadlines, taking liberties. Ivy studied her for a beat, then softened her voice. "You really hate that, don't you?" Kira exhaled, honest now. Yes, she hated every careful inch of it. Ivy grinned like a secret. She leaned over Kira, lips brushing her mouth, then her weight pressing down until Kira sank into the mattress. The kiss deepened, deliberate. "Then stop being the boss for one night," Ivy whispered. "Let me take it from you." She kissed Kira's throat, teeth grazing the skin. Her hands found the hem of Kira's shirt. "Take it off." Kira obeyed. When she reached for Ivy's breasts, Ivy caught both wrists and pinned them to the sheets. "Not yet." Her voice was low and certain. She straddled Kira's hips, breath hot at her ear. "You're going to learn how to let go, and I'm going to make sure you remember exactly how." The shirt hit the floor. Ivy's mouth traveled lower, tasting the surrender she had already won.
