Notebook Confessions

Kristen sits at a library table, pen scratching across diary pages as she writes love for Elsa Jean in secret verses. The library door swings open. Elsa enters. Kristen freezes, then bolts upright, but her chair tips and sends her straight into Elsa. Books hit the floor in a scattered crash. Elsa apologizes, then asks the time. Before the answer leaves Kristen's tongue, her body flees the building, pulse hammering. Alone by the overturned table, Elsa notices a lone notebook. She opens it. Poems—pages and pages—spell her name. A smile slips across Elsa's lips. She closes the diary softly.
Back in her room, Kristen is on the phone with lost-and-found. Nothing. She ends the call and hears a knock. "Come in," she calls, absent-minded. The handle turns and Elsa walks through the doorway, diary in hand. Kristen's throat closes. Words won't come. Elsa offers the book; Kristen's fingers shake as she takes it.
"You read it?" Kristen manages. Elsa says yes. Heat floods Kristen's face, shame sharp and sudden. Then Elsa's voice lowers—your words are beautiful. Kristen's pulse stutters. She blurts the truth: every line is for her. Elsa touches Kristen's cheek, thumb gentle, eyes steady. "I feel it too," she says, and closes the space between them. Lips meet, slow and full. Maybe clumsiness carries its own reward.
