Last night Anya kept her word. She made Lucy into what she is now instead of taking her life. Alone at her father's cabin, Lucy lies in bed as the venom moves through her. Her body jerks, changing. Morning comes. Sweat clings to her skin. Sunlight hits the window and scorches her eyes and face. She backs into the bathroom and stares into the mirror, but nothing stares back. Ella hears the panic and comes running. By the time she reaches her, the burns have faded. Lucy shakes too hard to meet her gaze. Ella pulls her into bed and stays close, refusing to leave.
