Tori Welles stepped away from the camera in the middle of 1990. A few scenes before that final exit she already carried a director’s eye. From the early nineties she began calling the shots, carving out her place behind the lens until the middle of the decade. In 1997 the heat pulled her back for a short run; she shot two last pictures, The Private Diary of Tori Welles and The Return of Tori Welles, then slipped out again. Years later the industry placed her in both the AVN and XRCO Halls of Fame, the plaques still warm from the decades she spent on either side of the camera.
